Thanks to Lakewood, Colorado HVAC company, Pradise Heating & Cooling

The topic of this blog post is not the typical sort of content that I post on, but I felt compelled. Feel free to tune out if you're not interested in anything non-technical. The purpose of this post is to express appreciation to Paradise Heating and Cooling and is the least thing I could do to express that appreciation and send a little SEO love their way.

Sometime during the night last night, the gas furnace at our house went out. I woke up to find our house 10 degrees cooler then normal. With just two adults, this wouldn't have been such a critical issue. With a 1 year old, it becomes very important.  read more »

Why can't I find a good designer?

This is getting frustrating.  I announced previously that I am working on re-designing my website.  That is true.  However, I've been through 2 designers already who haven't been able to deliver.  I've interviewed countless more.  My latest attempt has been to use the new oDesk service to find a designer.  I put up a job on Wednesday of this week and got 14 responses.  After looking at the portfolios of the talent that responded, I'm discouraged.  Not one of the portfolio sites was a fresh design.  The best ones out of the bunch looked like they are only about 2 years behind the curve.   read more »

Internet Explorer eats babies

Every once in a while I come across a forum signature that is too good not to share. This is one of those times.   Save a baby & go download Firefox!

Coolest job in the 2006 Olympic opening ceremony

Like 2 billion other people, I watched the opening ceremonies of the 2006 Winter Olympics.  As far as opening ceremonies go, most of the symbolism flew right over my head.  I have to give Bob Costas credit for trying to explain it all, but I really am just not that interested. I did find this guy's job cool though .  How awsome would it be to rollar skate around the stadium on fire.     Hopefully you'll enjoy the games.  I'm especially looking forward to the Men's Half Pipe Finals.

Chuck Norris is my hero

So funny ... About Chuck Norris:
  1. Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
  2. Chuck Norris once roundhouse kicked someone so hard that his foot broke the speed of light, went back in time, and killed Amelia Earhart while she was flying over the Pacific Ocean.
  3. Chuck Norris does not have AIDS but he gives it to people anyway.
  4. Chuck Norris has yet to get a Jeopardy question wrong. Jesus has missed two.
  5. Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead decided to punch his way out of his mother’s womb. Shortly thereafter he grew a beard.
  6. When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.
  7. Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.
  8. A man once asked Chuck Norris if his real name is "Charles". Chuck Norris did not respond, he simply stared at him until he exploded.
  9. Chuck Norris recently had the idea to sell his urine as a canned beverage. We know this beverage as Red Bull.
  10. The original theme song to Transformers was actually "Chuck Norris" more than meets the eye, Chuck Norris robot in disguise, and starred Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger who defended the earth from drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a pick-up. This was far too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.
  11. To prove it isn't that big of a deal to beat cancer. Chuck Norris smoked 15 cartons of cigarettes a day for 2 years and acquired 7 different kinds of cancer only to rid them from his body by flexing for 30 minutes.
  12. Chuck Norris was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of "beard". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wisemen, jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined influence to have Chuck omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.
  13. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.
  14. Chuck Norris once shot a German plane down with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"
  15. The chief export of Chuck Norris is pain.
  16. Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.
  17. If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death.

Down the mountain for a bit

Man, it's been over a week since I've blogged. Things have been busy as I've been getting ready for my yearly vacation. I'll be gone for another 2 weeks. I've got a lot of changes to this blog in the works and I'm looking forward to implementing them when I get back.

Microsoft kicks the dog

Wow. I've been reading Cringley's column since the beginning of 2005 and this is the first time I've really had to bow to his insight. This week, beginning May 9th, 2005 will forever change the world of technology. Opportunities abound, companies will grow, companies will die. This is the battlefield of tech. Tipping Point, Inflection Point, whatever you want to call it, we've rounded a corner.  Here's the meat, straight from the horses mouth. Working out the kinks

I've been blogging for a few weeks now and I would have to say that I love it. I love being able to write about topics important to me. It is a real pleasure.  I hope that the people who read this blog find it interesting as well.   With a dozen posts under my belt, I've started thinking more about what I want this blog to be about.   Before I even bought the domain name I threw together a quick mind-map of what I wanted this blog to be about.  Here's my list of the different ideas of the purpose of this blog.  read more »

Sites for a PDA size screen

Saw this over at Life Hacker. This is the first decent collection of PDA friendly sites I've seen, and from the way they look in Firefox, they are pretty good.  The one's I've visited on my Treo 600 look great as well. Thanks to geekBlue for this.  read more »
